MEET JUSTICE
NICK BRONNI.
Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders appointed Nick to the Arkansas Supreme Court. He is a conservative who believes in interpreting the Constitution according to its original meaning. He believes that judges should say what the law is—not what they want it to be. That's fairer for everyone.
As an Arkansas Supreme Court Justice, Nick has been a prolific writer and advocate for openness and clarity. He writes in plain English, not legalese, because he believes that you should not need a lawyer to understand the law.
Nick also does not play favorites. He treats each and every person who appears before him with dignity and respect. He decides cases based on the law.
Before Governor Sanders picked him for the Court, Nick was the Solicitor General of Arkansas. He was appointed to that role by both Attorney General Leslie Rutledge and Attorney General Tim Griffin. As Solicitor General, Nick represented Arkansas in the most important cases and won in courtrooms from Texarkana and Fayetteville to Washington, D.C.
He went to court to defend girls’ sports and successfully blocked President Biden’s illegal attempt to rewrite Title IX. Nick stood with Israel—successfully defending Arkansas’ law against boycotting Israel. He beat back illegal regulations that would have hurt small businesses and ruined family farms. And he stood with law enforcement.
Nick also argued—and won—two United States Supreme Court cases. He won a landmark victory for Arkansas pharmacists, and he led a bipartisan group of 30 states to victory in an abandoned property case. He has written numerous Supreme Court briefs fighting for individual liberty, election integrity, and justice for crime victims. He also protected free speech, standing with cake artists and florists against demands that they speak contrary to their conscience.
Nick’s legal work reflects his small-town Arkansas upbringing and belief that government and judges should follow the law. He grew up in Ouachita County, where he was on the quiz bowl team and in the marching band. His mother taught school in Calhoun County, and his father worked in the defense industry in Camden. He is the oldest of two children and his brother, Ryan, lives in Northwest Arkansas.
Today, Nick lives in Central Arkansas with Sarah, his wife of more than ten years, and their two young children, Margaret and Frederick. He is a member of the Federalist Society, St. James Methodist Church, and the Arkansas Advisory Committee on Civil Rights. He has also taught law school.
Nick graduated from Camden Fairview High School and earned a scholarship to George Washington University (GWU). He completed college two-and-a-half years later, graduating with summa cum laude honors. Nick earned his law degree from the University of Michigan Law School, graduating in the top two percent of his class with magna cum laude honors. At Michigan, he was an editor of the law review and met his legal hero, Justice Clarence Thomas, for the first time.
Nick clerked for the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and worked at a large international law firm in Washington, D.C. He also served in the federal government, where he fought to protect investors from fraudsters and swindlers.
